Celebrating America {with Lauren from Mrs. Thompson's Treasures}

Our first three children were born overseas and lived abroad for the first few years of their lives. I appreciate that they are able to experience different cultures of the world, but there is no place like home! I love that we have many holidays around the year to celebrate our wonderful country. It gives us so many chances to teach our kids about America and the men and women who make it great!

I love this cute and simple craft using construction paper, q-tips, and white paint.

Another fun activity to do with your students is to use strawberries, blueberries, and marshmallows to make patriotic kabobs! This is great for fine motor skills practice and patterns! And it makes a tasty snack too :-)

I also love to teach kids about the important symbols of the United States. I created this fun and FREE emergent reader that you can use to introduce your students to some of these symbols!

For older kids, here is a fun Flag Mystery Picture Graph (also FREE)! You can pair this activity with a writing prompt about Memorial Day or 4th of July.

Meet The Elementary Entourage, Freebie, and a Giveaway!

Welcome to the Elementary Entourage! We are a group of 17 elementary educators that just LOVE to collaborate and share teaching ideas, tips, and tools with our readers! Over the next 2 1/2 weeks stop by to meet each member of our entourage and check out some great ideas and freebies we have just for you!

I'm just so excited to be the first in our fabulous team to introduce myself! So a little bit about me...

I taught for 7 years (mostly in kindergarten) and just love everything about teaching little 5 year olds. But last year after having our first child, I decided to become a stay at home momma to my sweet daughter Madelynn.  I feel so lucky to be able to watch her grow and learn every day!
I have lived my whole life here in Wisconsin.  It's cold (Yes, we did just get snow for Halloween yesterday) but I love it here!  I truly like warm weather best, but I also love the changing seasons and my entire extended family lives within an hour of my house so you can't beat that!

Because it's cold here and I just love a great day at the beach, I love traveling!  My husband and I love to take cruises to see lots of fun places in one trip.
 I also love picture books and have a serious problem with buying a TON of them.  Seriously, you should see my basement now that I've moved them all home! At least Madelynn enjoys pulling them off the shelf reading them now :)

Thanks, for sticking around to read all about me. Just for stopping by I am offering a fun FREEBIE for you to use with your students! Here is my All About A: Interactive Emergent Reader.

And one last treat for you, a fantastic giveaway! Enter our "Meet the Entourage" giveaway to win a $10 shopping spree to each of our bloggers stores for a total of $170 in TPT products of your choice!
